Equal opportunity policy

The White Crane Academy is committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity and protecting the human rights of all. We place a positive value on diversity and believe that differences make us stronger.

We are committed to eliminating discrimination against any individual on the grounds of gender, gender reassignment, disability, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status and pregnancy, socio-economic status, language, religion or beliefs, appearance, nationality or culture (the protected characteristics). Our aim is that our students and employees will be truly representative of all sections of society and each individual feels respected and able to give their best.

This policy and the associated arrangements shall operate in accordance with statutory requirements and we comply with the 2010 Equality Act. In addition, full account will be taken of any guidance or Codes of Practice issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, any Government Departments, and any other statutory bodies.

Disability

The WCA is committed to addressing the barriers to inclusion and attaches particular importance to the needs of disabled people. In compliance with the 2010 Equality Act, we will:

  • not discriminate but give full and proper consideration to disabled people who apply as a  student or an employee
  • make reasonable adjustments to ensure people with physical and/or learning difficulties, are not substantially disadvantaged. We will make reasonable adjustments in support of their disability or difficulty to enable them to perform and learn at their best, e.g. reduced hours and extra time at exams and assessments.
